One glimpse at the Uyuni salt flats, and you might ask yourself if you’re dreaming. But no, this place is not made of dreams–it’s made of salt.

Found in the Bolivian province of Potosí, the Uyuni salt flats seen in this stunning video by Enrique Pacheco are the result of prehistoric lake transformations in southwestern Bolivia. Uyuni is home to the world’s largest salt flats, and the brine underpinning them contains approximately 50 to 70 percent of the world’s lithium supply. Lithium is a vital component for most electrically-powered tools, especially in the emerging electric car market.
