Video Of The Day: What Happens When A Military Robot Dog Meets An Actual Dog

This terrier isn’t a fan of Boston Dynamics’ dog-like robot.

The inventors over at Boston Dynamics look like they spend just as much time playing with their robots as they do creating them.

Just one week after the company posted a video showing an employee ruthlessly taunting a humanoid robot, they released a video of their new four-legged, dog-like robot toying with a real dog. And the dog certainly does not seem amused.

The robot, nicknamed Spot, has, like Boston Dyanmics’ other canine-inspired robots, been used by the military as a reconnaissance and transport device (although it reportedly isn’t totally measuring up to military expectations and the project is, for now, dormant).

The actual dog, Cosmo, is no ordinary dog — he’s the pet of Andy Rubin, Android co-founder and former manager of Google’s robotics program. It’s safe to say that Cosmo has had his fair share of robotic interactions.

Nevertheless, while Cosmo doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself, at least we can bet that dogs will be on our side when the battle against the machines inevitably comes…although it appears we’ve already lost the cats.

Next, check out how Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot is giving A.I. every reason to hate humans. Then, see what the world’s greatest minds think of the looming artificial intelligence threat and whether or not The Terminator could turn into reality.
