Brutal Gangs: Hells Angels

It’s hard to say how serious a threat the Hell’s Angels really are. For their part, they claim to be a legitimate group of motorcycle hobbyists just like any other group with shared interests. On the other hand, the FBI has never seen fit to set up a special division to track stamp collectors, so maybe something else is going on here.

To be fair to the group, much of the illegal activity seems to be done on a freelance basis among individuals and small groups within local chapters. Members often deal in methamphetamine and other drugs that can be produced locally, such as marijuana, which obviates the need for a top-down supply chain.
To be fair to the many, many law enforcement agencies that track their activities, much of the drug dealing takes place at nightclubs and strip clubs owned and operated by the organization.
Beatings and murder are the natural way of enforcing contracts in gray and black markets, and the Hell’s Angels don’t seem shy about handing them out, with ranking member Adam Lee Hall being convicted of a triple kidnapping and murder as recently as February 2014.
