No Lackin Challenge On Social Media

No Lackin Challenge

ABC 13Mohamad Alajil was charged with manslaughter in the death of his friend Christian Johnson while they were allegedly playing the No Lackin Challenge in Texas.

At least one person has died and multiple people have been critically injured after participating in the No Lackin Challenge, a social media challenge that dares people to pull loaded guns on each other without firing.

In December 2018, 19-year-old Christian Johnson was shot and killed by his friend, 17-year-old Mohamad Alajil, after they were reportedly playing the No Lackin challenge at Johnson’s Texas home. At first, Alajil said the two were fighting and he shot Johnson in self-defense, but later told officers about the challenge, according to KTRK. Alajil was charged with manslaughter, but Johnson’s family believes that his death was a planned murder.

Earlier that same year, in June 2018, 17-year-old Raul Garcia Jr. accidentally shot his friend, an unidentified 16-year-old, while playing the game in Texas.

“One will display a firearm at another and ask, ‘Are you lackin?’ The other individual will then display a gun back at the first individual and will say, ‘No.’ That was the cause of this incident,” said Kindale Pittman, an investigator with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, in an interview with KBTX.

Garcia and his friend allegedly pulled out the guns while they were traveling in a car. The car reportedly hit a speed bump and Garcia’s gun went off, shooting his friend in the face. The victim survived, but Garcia was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Another 17-year-old was shot in Tennessee while allegedly participating in the challenge. He was reportedly sent to the hospital in “extremely critical condition,” but survived, according to FOX13 Memphis.

“The No Lackin Challenge is something we have seen over the internet coming from Chicago,” said Memphis Police Department spokesperson Louis Brownlee. “You could very well face criminal charges for participating in something so dumb… If you point a firearm at someone, you have committed aggravated assault.”
