Britain’s Epping Forest spreads out across almost 6,000 acres. That’s plenty of space for hidden depths where ghosts and ghouls might lurk — if the stories about this being one of the most haunted forests in Britain are to be believed.
Located between London and Essex, Epping Forest has been the site of many chilling episodes over the years. Not only does its history of violence stretch back to Roman times, but the forest also allegedly contains a hideout site used by the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. What’s more, the murderous gangster twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray were also believed to have use the woods as a place to bury their victims in the 1960s.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, many people have reported paranormal encounters in the depths of Epping Forest.

Some people claim to have had encounters with ghosts, from the ancient British queen Boudica to a nameless apparition said to run out in front of cars, lock eyes with the driver, and then disappear.
According to Haunted Rooms, other ghosts have been spotted here as well. People claimed to have seen a headless biker, a headless horseman, a man in a tricolor hat, and the ghost of a girl who drowned.
There’s also a place in Epping Forest called “Hangman’s Hill” where cars parked in neutral will allegedly be pulled upward, toward a place where people were once hanged.
