Dow Hill of Kurseong, India, is known for its stunning views and lovely orchids. But it’s also supposedly one of the most haunted forests in the country.

About 20 miles from Darjeeling, Dow Hill has been the site of many spooky and peculiar episodes over the years. These hauntings seem to happen around two sites in particular: a path known as “Death Road” and a 100-year-old school near the forest’s edge.

Woodcutters who work near “Death Road” claim to have seen creepy sights like the headless ghost of a little boy. Others have reported seeing the ghost of a woman and a red eye looking at them. And some report having the unsettling feeling that they’re being watched.

Believers also claim that the 100-year-old Victoria Boys High School near the forest is haunted. Though it’s uninhabited from December until March, locals claim that they hear whispers and footsteps at the site while the students are away.

In the end, however, Dow Hill is just one of the many haunted forests that can be found around the globe. From the Americas to Europe to Asia, these spooky woods are purportedly filled with ghosts, demons, cryptids, and other eerie entities.

And perhaps there’s only one way to find out for sure if these stories are true…

After reading about these haunted forests, discover the stories behind these purportedly haunted hotels. Then, step inside more of the scariest places on Earth.
