Rapper Cliff Mac’s Foiled Murder-For-Hire Plot
According to the Department of Justice, in 2020, Clifton E. Terry III, better known by his rap name “Cliff Mac,” met with 25-year-old Andre D. Sims and offered him $10,000 to kill a woman in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Sims traveled from Grand Rapids to Flint on Nov. 27, 2020 to commit the murder. The next day, he drove to the intended target’s home, where he allegedly waited until he saw her leaving to go to work, at which point he blocked her car in the driveway, and fired several shots at her.
“Seven to eight rounds right into the side of the car, and it’s a miracle the person did not die,” Sterling Heights Police Chief Dale Dwojakowski said, per a FOX News report. “[She] sustained some injuries. She survived.”
Sims then drove to an apartment complex nearby and abandoned his vehicle. Terry arrived not long after to pick Sims up, and eventually agreed to pay Sims $2,500 for the failed hit.
But the story didn’t end there. According to MLive, both men, along with Isiah Claiborne and Troy Lyle, were later linked to additional murder charges after the shooting deaths of another two people in separate incidents just hours apart on Oct. 3, 2020.
In all, Terry was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and eight counts of felony firearm — all on top of his previous charge of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
