‘Left 4 Dead,’ The Popular Multiplayer Zombie Game
In November 2008, the massive video game developer Valve released the game Left 4 Dead. The story takes place during a zombie outbreak in the United States.
Four survivors attempt to escape the town of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, by fighting the infected. Players must defend their character from zombie attacks while progressing through the story.
Although Left 4 Dead was not the first video game to popularize zombies, it did feature unique gameplay that no zombie game had attempted before, such as a “versus” mode that allowed players to act as survivors or as the infected, as well as a four-player campaign mode. The game’s multiplayer feature would be replicated by future additions to the horror genre.
The game was a commercial success and even won awards, leading to the creation of a sequel and a place among the scariest video games of all time.
