What began as a family disagreement over childcare arrangements at a Thanksgiving dinner in Annapolis, Maryland, in 2012 ended with a stabbing and a woman facing serious charges.
According to local station WBAL TV-11, the trouble started on Thursday, Nov. 22, in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis. Shenika Allsup, who was 27 at the time, and her 23-year-old half-brother, Dionte Wallace, were gathered with family for Thanksgiving dinner when they began arguing over where Wallace’s children would spend the night.
Allsup wanted the children to remain at the residence, while Wallace insisted they return to their mother’s apartment in another building.
According to court documents, the verbal disagreement escalated into physical pushing. Then, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the argument reached its violent conclusion: Allsup stabbed Wallace on the left side of his shoulder, close to his neck, with a carving fork from the Thanksgiving table.
When the police arrived at the home, Wallace initially tried to evade officers, but they caught up with him at a nearby park. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A neighbor, Donna Johnson, witnessed the aftermath. She told the media, “I seen the young man laying on the ground, some blood on his shirt… [I]t’s a holiday. They are brothers and sisters. They shouldn’t be going through that.”
Officers found Allsup sitting in a dark bedroom. She reportedly appeared agitated by their presence, had slurred speech, and smelled strongly of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. Court records indicated that Allsup had a long criminal history that included theft, assault, and drug possession.
She was held on a $1 million bond for the Thanksgiving crime — an unusually high amount due to the severity of the charges and her prior record.
