The Conjuring is one of the most influential horror films of the last decade, but according to its lead actress, its horrors extend beyond the screen.
According to Cinema Blend, actress Vera Farmiga, who plays paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren, experienced a number of chilling events off-screen once she began to work on the allegedly cursed film series.
The first strange occurrence happened before filming even began for the first Conjuring film. Farmiga was researching the Warrens following a phone conversation with director James Wan when she opened her computer and saw “three digital claw marks, from the upper right diagonal to the lower left.”
Months later, on the day that Farmiga completed filming for The Conjuring, she returned to her home in upstate New York. The next day, she claims, she woke up and found three claw mark bruises on her thigh.
“It wasn’t incredibly painful,” she said. “It might have felt like a bruise… It was these three, very distinct, what looks like claw marks, that long nails or long fingertips, like thin fingertips could make.”
While the set of The Conjuring was fairly accident-free, Farmiga’s experience is still chilling given the context of the first film and the horrifying events that befell the Perron family who inspired it.
