A Breakup Gone Horribly Wrong

South Carolina Attic Phrogging

Breakups are never easy, but one woman learned just how difficult they could be when she found an ex in her attic — 12 years after they broke up.

As the Daily Mail reported in 2012, “Tracy,” a single mother of five, started hearing banging noises in her attic and assumed that a wild animal had crawled in or that her house was potentially haunted.

Her sons and nephew went up into the attic to check, and to their surprise, they found a 44-year-old man sleeping in it. Tracy said she last saw her ex a year prior when he did some odd jobs for her. Shortly afterward, though, he went to prison for robbery — including stealing Tracy’s truck.

He also had an addiction to drugs, and so despite receiving letters from him while he was behind bars, Tracy made it clear that she was not interested in resuming their old relationship. Yet two weeks after he was released from prison, he apparently made his way into Tracy’s attic and holed up there.

Tracy described having an uneasy feeling on the night of the discovery — a feeling that was confirmed when she heard a loud thump in the attic and noticed things coming loose from the ceiling.

“Then all the nails just popped out of the ceiling over my bed. Like ‘bing, bing, bing,'” she said. “I thought there was some poltergeist stuff going on.”

Her ex booked it out of the house before police arrived, but when authorities investigated the scene, they found cups filled with feces and urine in the attic. More frightening was the fact that the only entrance to the attic was in a hallway that connected Tracy’s children’s rooms.
