Obamacare is indeed working, but that doesn’t mean the program is without its flaws. Recently, a newly proposed Obamacare provision seeks to address one of those flaws: discriminatory healthcare practices.

The new rule states that no government provider nor any insurer who operates in the Obamacare exchange marketplace can market or design their benefits in a way that discriminates on the bases of race, age, sex, disability, or gender identity.

One of the most acutely suffering groups when it comes to discrimination in healthcare has long been transgender people, for whom the new rule would finally offer some protection. Obamacare representatives were sure to point out the new rule would not require that any particular service be provided, just that insurers use nondiscriminatory criteria in determining the services they cover.
