What happens when you’re hoping to get closure from your online searching but end up stumbling upon something a lot more complicated? That’s exactly what happened to content creator Cody Jacob (@imcodyjacob).
Jacob has been estranged from his father for over a decade, and to satisfy his curiosity about his whereabouts, Jacob searches for his name once each year. Nothing usually comes up — but this year, that all changed.
‘I Suddenly Find An Arrest Record’
In a viral TikTok video with more than 2.6 million views, Jacob walked through this year’s online search for his father in real time.
“Every year, once a year, I Google my father’s name,” Jacob said in the video, “and that’s because I’m searching for an obituary. He’s still alive, I think, but I won’t know if he dies because… we have no contact.”
After 15 years of coming up short, Jacob said this year’s search returned an arrest record from 1998. The charge was attempted homicide. And the listed victim wasn’t a stranger — it was Jacob himself.

@imcodyjacob/TikTokJacob’s video on his chilling discovery has gone viral, amassing over 2.6 million views.
“I was [this] close to ending up on some white woman’s podcast,” Jacob added in the caption.
However, the details are just as unclear to Jacob as they are to his audience.
What’s The Backstory On This Tragedy?
In a follow-up video, Jacob filled viewers in on a bit of the rest of the story, at least as he remembers it.
According to Jacob, his father was “a wealthy, alcoholic, homicidal maniac” who attempted to kill his mother while she was pregnant with him. However, his father retained custody of him for several years until he went to live with his mom.
Jacob explained that the domestic violence his mother survived left her with injuries severe enough that “she had already begun to die,” even after his birth. She eventually had her pancreas removed and passed away from brittle diabetes in 2023.
Brittle diabetes refers to diabetes that becomes especially hard to manage, causing unpredictable swings between dangerously low and high blood sugar that can lead to frequent hospitalization and, in severe cases, death.

“If you ask me, my dad killed my mom,” Jacob said. “But he didn’t kill me. He tried… twice but didn’t do it.”
The Chilling Truth About Filicide
Filicide — when a parent deliberately murders their own child — is tragically more common than many people think. A 2014 study published in the journal Forensic Science International examined three decades of cases between 1976 and 2007. Researchers found that there are roughly 500 cases of filicide in the United States each year.
Nearly 72 percent of victims were six or younger, and one-third were babies under a year old. But more than 13 percent of victims were adults between 18 and 40, meaning the risk doesn’t necessarily disappear once a child is grown and out of the house.
Fathers made up around 57 percent of the killers, and sons were murdered more often then daughters — statistics that align with Cody Jacob’s disturbing tale.
All That’s Interesting could not confirm the arrest records or any other details beyond what Jacob has shared publicly but has reached out for comment via email and direct message.
