Chinese Police Located A Fugitive Using The Smell Of Hotpot Coming From His Apartment

PixabayChinese fugitive was Guo Bing was suspected of gang crimes, fraud, and extortion — then his hotpot gave him away.
Another funny news story that made the rounds this year was the capture of a Chinese fugitive in Nantong who was caught by the smell of his fragrant dinner.
The local police in China knew to sniff out the suspect in the city of 7 million and pinpoint his room covertly in a large building complex when they saw him arrive home with the ingredients for hotpot.
Jiangsu province police had been on the hunt for Guo Bing, who was suspected of gang crimes, fraud, and extortion, for about six months before his arrest. But it proved difficult to pinpoint him exactly. Through facial recognition technology, police were able to track Bing down to an apartment building. But they had one problem — they had no idea which unit he occupied, and they didn’t want to make a scene among the building’s high number of tenants, according to Detective Ge Lei.
An extra surveillance camera was thus installed by police right by the building and it caught an image of Bing’s groceries one day.
Police sharply noticed that his bags contained the ingredients to make hotpot. On that clue, authorities invaded the building and followed the delicious scent of the dinner to an apartment where they were able to make the arrest.
The rest is funny news history.
