The Primotalii Pepper: One Of The Carolina Reaper’s Top Competitors

Primotalii Pepper

RedditJohnny Scoville, a man known for eating hot peppers, claimed the Primotalii was the hottest pepper he had ever eaten.

Before Pepper X was officially revealed to be the current hottest pepper in the world today, there was some debate among “chili heads” about which spicy pepper would usurp the famous Carolina Reaper.

One of the frontrunners was the Primotalii pepper, a cross between the 7 pot primo and the fatalii — with the website Pepper Geek claiming that, during their testing, this crossbreed was possibly hotter than the Carolina Reaper.

Noted “chili head” Johnny Scoville reportedly once claimed that the Primotalii was the hottest pepper he had ever eaten, and though there was no official SHU rating at the time, some estimates suggested that the Primotalii likely rated somewhere around 2,200,000 SHUs.

It’s also remarkable that the Primotalii flew under the radar for so long, as the original cross was first created in 2012, by Chris Saunders, and it could have potentially given the Carolina Reaper a run for its money.
