The Naga Viper: The Scorching “Cobra” Of Chilis

Naga Viper

Notably hotter than the ghost pepper, the Naga Viper pepper measures a scorching 1,382,118 SHUs and was formerly crowned the hottest pepper in the world back in 2011 by the Guinness World Records.

As the North-West Evening Mail reported back in 2011, the Naga Viper was the brainchild of an English chili pepper farmer by the name of Gerald Fowler, who worked for The Chilli Pepper Company in Cark.

The Naga Viper beat out another impressively hot pepper, the Infinity Chilli, just two weeks after the Infinity Chilli originally set the world record, and the Naga Viper narrowly managed to secure its place among Guinness’ award-winners after Fowler reached out, worried he had “missed out for the year.”

The pepper itself, Fowler said, is a three-way cross between the Naga Morich, the bhut jolokia, and the Trinidad Scorpion.

There’s no doubt that the Naga Viper packs a lot of heat, but it doesn’t measure up to the world’s hottest pepper today.
