World’s Ugliest Animals: Giant Isopods
The horrific giant isopods are notorious scavengers in the deep-sea, lurking at depths of 550 feet to 7,000 feet and beyond. They tend to enjoy muddy surfaces and lead solitary lives, which is probably a useful since their appearance leaves much too fear.
Covered in a hard shell that is divided into segments, the isopods have large, compound eyes, with over 4,000 individual facets and large antennae to help them feel their way along the ocean floor. Scarier still, they can grow up to almost 8 inches in length.
