Wendy Lynn Wein Tried To Hire A Hitman To Kill Her Ex-Husband
In July 2020, 52-year-old Wendy Lynn Wein of Rockwood, Michigan fell into the same trap as others on this list: She tried to rent a hitman online.
Wein cleverly used a pseudonym to file her request — though it did little to hide her identity — and added a note saying, “I prefer not going to jail.” Her request? Kill her ex-husband who, she alleged, had stolen $20,000 from her.
Bob Innes responded to Wein’s request under the guise of being a hitman named Guido Fanelli, confirming her intent before contacting Michigan State Police.
The police took over the Fanelli persona and arranged a rendezvous with Wein, agreeing to meet with her at a local café. She gave the undercover detective her ex-husband’s home address, work address, and phone number, and said she would pay $5,000 to have him killed.
She met with “Fanelli” again later that day and paid him $200 as a downpayment for travel costs — then, the police arrested her.
