John Gotti is one of New York’s most infamous mobsters. He frequently made headlines — and right beside him was his wife, Victoria DiGiorgio Gotti.

The two first met at a Brooklyn bar in the late 1950s and got married in March 1962. They remained together for 40 years until John Gotti’s death in 2002, and they had five children together: Angel, Victoria, John Jr., Frank, and Peter — though, tragically, Frank Gotti was killed by a drunk driver when he was a young boy.

Despite her husband’s notoriety, Victoria Gotti has maintained a relatively low profile. Based on certain things she has said over the years, though, it seems like she didn’t fully endorse her husband’s lifestyle — or, at the very least, she didn’t want her children following in his footsteps.

Of course, John Jr. did just that, becoming the acting boss of the Gambino crime family while his father was in prison. Victoria once said that she felt “betrayed” by this decision, per a 2013 report by the Daily Mail.

“I pretty much raised my children alone with Johnny being away for years at a time, so it broke my heart. I felt betrayed, the worst betrayal. I would rather have dealt with other women,” she said.
