Zozo Demon: The Evil Spirit Allegedly Conjured By Ouija Boards

Some people buy Ouija boards in hopes of communicating with spirits. But Darren Evans allegedly got more than he bargained for when he used one in 2009 — and allegedly found himself communicating with a demon.
As Evans explained on an online ghost forum on March 24, 2009, he was using his Ouija board one day when the planchette started jerking between the letters “Z” and “O,” spelling out “Z-O-Z-O-Z-O-Z-O-Z-O-Z-O.” He claimed that the “demon” said it wanted to take Evans’ family to paradise, and then spelled out “H-E-L-L.” Shortly thereafter, Evans found his one-year-old daughter drowning in an overflowing tub.
Though Evans was able to rescue his daughter, he isn’t the only person who claimed to have encountered the Zozo Demon. After posting his account online, others came forward with similar stories.

These stories bore a strong resemblance to Evans’ account. Someone would be using the Ouija board, then notice that the planchette began flying between the letters “Z” and “O.” After that, the planchette would start spelling out obscenities and threats.
Chillingly, variations of the Zozo Demon seem to appear throughout history. Some believe that the demon bears an unsettling resemblance to Pazuzu, a Mesopotamian deity thought to be the ruler of the demons. And an 1816 account of a French exorcism describes a young girl possessed by three demons named “Mimi, Capoulet, and Zozo.”
Whether or not the Zozo Demon truly exists is, of course, up to debate. But Ouija board users might want to use caution the next time they place their fingers on the planchette.
