Bathsheba Sherman: The Evil Ghost That Haunted The Perron Family

The last story of demonic possessions on this list involves Ed and Lorraine Warren yet again, as well as a murderous ghost named Bathsheba Sherman.

The subject of the 2013 film The Conjuring, Bathsheba Sherman allegedly married a man who owned a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, in the 19th century. Shortly after their marriage, she possibly killed a child under her care and her own son before pledging allegiance to the Devil and hanging herself from a tree.

Over 100 years later, the Perron family — Roger, Carolyn, and their five daughters — moved onto the property. Soon, they found themselves haunted by an evil spirit and reached out to the Warrens for help.

In 1974, the Warrens conducted a seance with Carolyn Perron — but everything went horribly wrong. An evil spirit living in the house, Bathsheba Sherman or something else, began to attack Carolyn. As her daughter Andrea later told Global News Canada:

“The night of the seance was a gruesome event, shocking and horrific, the definition of childhood trauma. My mother’s body was rolled into a ball. It was absolutely heart-stopping hearing her scream, watching her writhing in pain… My father thinks she was possessed for a few minutes because she spoke in a language that does not exist on this planet.”

According to Andrea, her father threw the Warrens out of the house after the seance — which isn’t exactly what happened in the film. In fact, the family stayed in the house until 1980 because they couldn’t afford to move.

“The film portrayed a Hollywood scene of Ed and Lorraine casting out a so-called demon that “possessed” my mother and everybody lived happily ever,” Andrea Perron said. “That’s not what happened, not at all. Sometimes there is no happy ending. Sometimes survival is a success story all its own.”
