Only In Florida: When You Confuse Laxatives For Opioids
This Florida man garnered himself a few felony charges when he stole what he thought were his roommate’s hydrocodone pills which actually turned out to be laxatives. The roommate, Jayme Ream, had pulled a little switcharoo when he suspected that Peter Emery Jr. was stealing his pills, so he replaced the controlled narcotic with laxatives and even set up the camera to confirm his suspicions.
The 56-year-old Emery was subsequently charged with stealing. According to USA Today, Emery later told authorities he believed the laxatives were opioids, and threw them away after he discovered they were “something else.”
Emery already had multiple theft convictions on his record, an arrest affidavit confirmed.
This over-the-counter medication arguably led Emery into at least two frustrating situations — one of which landed him in the bathroom and the other in jail.
