A Farmer Grew A 910-Pound Pumpkin And Turned It Into A Boat

For Tennessee farmer Justin Ownby, the ultimate dream this year was to grow a 1,000-pound pumpkin, and in October this year, he did just that.
For the last four years, Ownby was determined to grow a monster pumpkin. Luckily this year, he was able to get his hands on a seed that came from a record-breaking pumpkin grown in the state that weighed a whopping 1,700 pounds. That pumpkin won last year’s title for the biggest pumpkin in the state, and Ownby was going to try to grow another giant out of its seeds.
“He chose a spot where the water ran off easily, keeping it cool in the heat of the day, keeping it watered and making sure that squash beetles didn’t overtake it,” his wife, Christin, said. She also said that the family’s entire pumpkin-growing efforts were solely focused on growing the giant gourd.
All that hard work paid off when the Ownbys harvested the 910-pounder. Weighing almost half a ton, it was the biggest pumpkin the family has ever produced.
“It’s the biggest we ever grew,” Christin said. “The largest before was 220 pounds.” To celebrate his accomplishment, Ownby did what any other grower would do: he took his giant pumpkin out for a swim. The farmer emptied out the monster gourd and, using his truck, hauled it onto the family’s pond.
Lucky for us, the family’s kooky celebrations were captured on video by his wife for all the world to see.
