A Physicist Built A Calculator To Measure How Humans Would Fare In A Vampire Apocalypse

Vampire And Bats

PixabayOne physicist used various cientific theories and mathematical equations to create his “vampire apocalypse calculator.”

Physicist Dominik Czernia made funny news headlines after he successfully created a digital tool that can mathematically calculate the outcome of a real-life vampires-versus-humans scenario. And yes, the vampire apocalypse calculator actually works.

Czernia, a vampire lore buff, created models based on different vampire stories from pop culture, such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and even Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight.

“I’m an absolute sucker [pun intended] for ‘traditional’ ruthless vampires, such as Dracula, but there have been so many interesting takes on vampires in literature and movies over the past years,” Czernia explained. The behavior of the vampires from each storyline can then be added as parameters to calculate the outcome of a specific scenario.

Inquisitive vampire fans can also customize parameters for a given human and vampire slayer population. The vampire apocalypse calculator was a big hit online and served as a fun Halloween side-project for the scientist.

“It combines two things that I find fascinating: fiction and science,” he said. “I love it when we can apply mathematical models to even the most surprising things and describing a vampire apocalypse using differential equations definitely makes the top of my list.”
