Let’s use Facebook as the obvious example. The social media platform employs a complex relevancy algorithm to decide what to show you first when you click open your timeline.

While the algorithm may be complicated, the endgame is not. Simply put, it shows you what it thinks you most want to see. This is solely based on what posts you’ve interacted with previously.

It’s no secret anymore that we revel in bad news, so it shouldn’t be surprising that a lot of bad news is going to end up in our feeds.
