Breaking a world record is an impressive feat and often leads to some strange news stories. That is exactly the case with Rolf Buchholz, a 60-year old German man with the world record for body modifications.
Buchholz broke the Guinness World Record for most body modifications on a single person in October 2020. He began the endeavor at 40 years old and rapidly became addicted to the process. Of his 516 body modifications, 268 are penis piercings. According to him, they don’t impede his sex life. While fairly hard to fathom, he does seem sincere.
Nearly every part of his body is covered in tattoos and he has two subdermal implants on his forehead that mimic horns, as well as six around his wrists. “A lot of people think I’m the devil,” Buchholz said. “But I don’t believe in the devil.”
Buchholz was first recognized by Guinness for his feat in 2010. He had 453 modifications at the time, with a whopping 158 around his lips and 37 covering his eyebrows. Perhaps most glaring about Buchholz, though, are his eyeballs. Buchholz underwent an unidentified procedure to get the whites turned entirely black.
Buchholz made waves in one of the craziest news stories of 2014 when he was turned away at Dubai International Airport. He was en route to a scheduled appearance for fans of his bizarre hobby. Despite the organizers’ best efforts, he was forbidden from entering the country. According to Buchholz, airport authorities took one look at him and accused him of dabbling in “black magic.”
At the end of the day, he’s proud of his world record. “The body modifications have changed only the outside,” he said. “It’s changed not me. I’m the same person.”
Buchholz has said that he’s open to getting more body modifications. He might certainly be the headline in more weird news stories in the future.
