Ridiculous Beliefs: Yoshiro Nakamatsu
At 81 years old, Yoshiro Nakamatsu is the world’s most prolific inventor with over 3,000 patents and claims to having invented just about everything. And we mean it. Here’s a mere handful of Nakamtsu’s inventions: from the karaoke machine, floppy disks, CD and DVD player, the digital watch, as well as a toilet seat lifter, a pillow that prevents sleeping while driving and a condom embedded with a magnet that heightens sexual pleasure. His genius comes at a cost, though.
When inventing, Nakamatsu describes his “creative process” as one which includes listening to music and then diving deep underwater, holding his breath just 0.5 seconds before death so that he can have a flash of brilliance. He is also “dead set” to live to the ripe age of 144, and follows a meticulous health regime (one, of course, that he invented) to ensure that this occurs. He believes that you only need four hours of sleep a night, and anything over six is bad.
