Strange Health News: Man Tries To Cure Back Pain With His Own Semen

Arm After Semen Injections

Irish Medical Journal An anonymous man injected semen into his arm 18 times in the hopes of curing his back pain.

In January, a strange bit of news broke: An Irishman who had been suffering from chronic back pain decided to take matters into his own hands and try an unusual home remedy.

The unnamed 33-year-old had reportedly been injecting himself with his own semen once a month for a year and a half — for a total of 18 times — after a back injury left him in chronic pain. It wasn’t until he injured himself again, and sought medical help, that the story came to light.

At his doctor’s visit, his physician noticed redness and swelling on the man’s arm. He admitted that he’d been self-administering this strange “cure” once a month through a hypodermic needle he’d purchased online. Shortly before the visit, however, he’d injected himself with three doses, due to the new injury.

There seemed to be no explanation for why the man decided to start injecting semen into his veins, nor an explanation for how he got the idea. According to a study published on the case, there seemed to be no information on using semen as a medical cure in literature, or even on “eclectic internet sites.”

Furthermore, there were far more negative side effects to the “cure” and seemingly no change in his back pain. In addition to redness and swelling at the injection site, the patient was suffering from a bacterial infection known as cellulitis, and fluid retention known as edema. He also appeared to have missed his veins on several occasions, causing bubbles of semen to form under his skin.

According to the medical study, it was “the first reported case of semen injection for use as a medical treatment.” Let’s hope it’s the last.
