The history books may recount the stories of heroes like Gandhi and Lincoln alongside villains like Hitler and Stalin. But while these titans certainly shaped our world, what the history books too often leave out are the scores of interesting people whose lives left an indelible mark on the past in ways that still affect the present. These often overlooked adventurers, scientists, activists, war heroes, and evildoers offer up some of humanity’s greatest stories whether the history books realize it or not.
