A center for salt mining, the small village of Hallstatt is home to only about 900 people – but it makes up for it in tourism. This place is as picturesque as they come, with mountains, lakes, and pastel colored houses – and you can walk from one end of town to the other without watching for traffic, as cars aren’t allowed on the streets in the middle of the day from May until October.
