A Man In Ohio Killed His Neighbor — Because He Thought He Was A Democrat

Austin Combs

Butler County Sheriff’s Office/CanvaAustin Combs, the 26-year-old who shot his neighbor under the assumption he was a Democrat.

“My neighbor just shot my dad,” said the son of 43-year-old Anthony Lee King in a 911 call to Butler County, Ohio police on Nov. 5th. King’s wife had just finished mowing the lawn when she suddenly heard gunshots. She ran around to the backyard and saw her neighbor, 26-year-old Austin Combs, walking back toward his house and her husband lying in the grass, bleeding.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader, she told police that Combs had “come over like four times confronting my husband because he thought he was a Democrat.”

King died before deputies could arrive, with multiple gunshot wounds sealing his fate. Combs, meanwhile, faces a charge of murder for the Nov. 5th shooting — which took place just days before a tense midterm election.

Obviously, political tensions and divides have been intense in America recently, especially since the 2020 election results were denied by former president Donald Trump and a group of his supporters stormed the United States Capitol as a result.

Butler County’s Journal-News later reported that Combs admitted to shooting King, per court documents, “several times with a revolver.”

Shortly after the shooting, Combs was indicted by a Butler County grand jury for aggravated murder with a gun specification and booked with a bond of $950,000.
