A former school aide and track coach has been accused of sexually victimizing a number of children in his care while he was HIV-positive.

Fox News reports that Carlos Deangelo Bell, 30, was indicted last Friday on more charges of sexually victimizing children at the Maryland middle school he worked at. Bell was first indicted in July on 119 counts of sexually victimizing 24 victims, which was increased to 206 counts and 42 victims on Friday.

Bell was HIV-positive during the time that these assaults took place.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the school aide stands accused of sexually abusing his victims, male students at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, at his home and possibly at other locations between May 2015 and June 2017.

“The ages of the alleged victims at the time the offenses were committed range from 11 years old to 17 years old,” said the Charles County State Attorney’s Office.

Police were first alerted when the parent of one of the students noticed inappropriate text messages from Bell on her son’s phone. This led police to search Bell’s home computer where they found evidence of his assaults, including graphic images of Bell sexually assaulting his victims.

It was from this evidence that police were able to identify most of Bell’s victims.

Of the 42 victims, police have identified 28 juveniles, but 14 remain unknown.

Despite the fact that Bell was HIV-positive and did not use protection while sexually assaulting these children, the state attorney’s office has said that they are not aware of any of the victims testing positive for HIV.

He is currently being charged with 22 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, 19 counts of second-degree sex offense, 19 counts of second-degree sex offenses, seven counts of third-degree sex offense, 13 counts of displaying obscene item to minor, 97 counts of child pornography, and other offenses.

If convicted, the state attorney’s office is saying they will seek a life sentence for Bell. He is scheduled for trial on January 8th.
