After Gender Transition Surgery, One Person Defines Themself As A “Genderless Alien”
In 2014, Jareth Nebula transitioned from female to male in order to find peace and fulfill a lifelong void. But this year, Nebula claimed that wasn’t enough, and took their transition a step further.
No longer identifying as male, Jareth Nebula now identifies as a genderless alien.
Rather than define themself as “gender fluid” – a term used to identify those who don’t feel like they fit into either a male or female gender identity – Nebula chooses to define themself as “agender” or “genderless.” In fact, they don’t even see themself as human.
“I don’t think or feel like humans,” said Nebula. “I can’t really explain it to others — I’m simply otherworldly. I didn’t feel comfortable as either gender or even anything in between. I know I’m stuck in a human form and that’s how I’m perceived by others — but to me, I’m an alien with no gender.”
After their transition four years ago, Jareth Nebula said something just still didn’t feel right.
“I thought being a trans man would solve all of my issues and inner battles with finding out who I was, but I wasn’t as happy as I expected to be,” said Nebula. “I felt like I was trying to fit into someone else’s box. I didn’t want to be constrained — that’s when I discovered what agender was.”
Though “genderless alien” is a wildly unconventional identity, there’s no doubt that the decision is one that changed Nebula for the better. While many around them may not be accepting of their lifestyle, it isn’t stopping them.
“I feel sorry for people who attack me online,” they added. “I think they lack empathy and just want to target me, so I deal with it pretty well by brushing it off. I’m happy with who I am and will continue to become more alien-like every day.”
