Guinness Crowned The World’s Tallest Domesticated Cat: An 18-Inch Savannah Cat Named Fenrir

Fenrir And His Owner

Dr. William Powers of Farmington Hills, Michigan is no stranger to world record-holding felines, and this year, Guinness World Records awarded his 18.83-inch Savannah cat the title of World’s Tallest Domesticated Cat.

Powers described his award-winner, Fenrir, as “a monster,” adding, “He’s a really good boy. You can hold him like a baby.”

Fenrir is actually the fourth of Powers’ cats to win an award, with his Maine Coon, Altair, currently holding the record for the longest tail on a domesticated cat, at 16.07 inches. Before Altair, that record was held by Powers’ late cat Cygnus.

Fenrir’s title was once held by his own brother, Arcturus, who stood 19.05 inches tall from foot to shoulder. Unfortunately, Arcturus, Cygnus, and another cat named Sirius died in a house fire in 2017 — one that left Powers absolutely heartbroken.

“I don’t really have words to describe what that was like,” the doctor said. “But I wasn’t well for a long time. I didn’t work for a long time, but eventually I started to get better and I missed having cats. Now I have six. They make my life well. They made me get well. They gave me a reason to climb out of that hole.”
