A Wild Elephant Trampled An Indian Woman To Death — Then Attacked Her Corpse At Her Funeral

One day, while drawing water in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, 70-year-old Maya Murmu’s life was cut short by a wild elephant that appeared suddenly and trampled the old woman.
Murmu unfortunately succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, and her grieving family began to prepare for her funeral. It’s unclear how many people were invited to the funeral, but there was certainly one uninvited guest — the very same elephant that had killed Murmu.
With a larger herd in tow, the elephant rampaged Murmu’s funeral, knocking her from the funeral pyre, trampling her body for a second time, tossing it away, and then running off.
Murmu’s family was eventually able to gather up the woman’s dead body and get on with the ceremony, but the strange and tragic event left many people in a state of shock.
“We were terrified after witnessing the elephant herd on Thursday evening,” one attendee said. “We have never had such a ferocious elephant bunch.”
The elephants also damaged a number of houses in the area, but no one was ever able to ascertain why, exactly, this one elephant had it out for Maya Murmu.
