Father And Son Caught On Camera Killing Bears
In 2018, a video surfaced of a father-son pair venturing into a hibernating black bear’s cave and killing two cubs and their mother.
This year, the video was released to the public along with the names of the perpetrators.
Andrew Renner and his son Owen were captured shooting the three animals on a hidden camera.
At first, the two men peer into the den then fire into its depths. As the men fired, the bear cubs could be heard growling and shrieking in panic before their whines are abruptly cut short.
“They’ll never be able to link it back to us,” one of the men can be heard saying in the video.
To make matters worse, after killing the bears, the men returned to attempt to destroy the evidence. They posed for photos with the mother bear before stuffing her into a bag to take home.
The next day, the men returned to the scene to clear it of their shell casings and bear cub’s bodies.
The silver lining of the entire, gruesome ordeal is that the cameras were being monitored by Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Forest Service.
“This video of a father and son killing a mother bear and her babies in their den and showing complete disregard for the lives they are taking is reprehensible,” Humane Society International President Kitty Block said of Andrew Renner and son Owen.
“The Renners’ actions demonstrate the ruthless brutality that the government is poised to enact into law on millions of acres in Alaska, overturning a 2015 Obama-era rule that prohibits the killing of black bear mothers and cubs in their dens on these lands.”
Thanks to the videos, the two men were tracked down and charged with multiple counts including unlawfully taking a female bear with cubs, possession/transporting illegally taken game, and tampering with physical evidence. Both men pled guilty.
