Before his arrest in 2005, Dennis Rader operated as the “BTK Killer,” for which he was known because of his method of murder: bind, torture, and finally, kill.

According to Insider, Rader worked for the ADT security company for 14 years and thus had a pretty reliable understanding of how to break and enter into homes undetected.

One woman never knew how close to death she was until Rader sent her a sinister poem.

Dennis Rader is sentenced to 175 years in prison for the murder of 10 people.

David Fincher’s Mindhunter recently depicted the BTK Killer’s April 1979 attempt to murder the 63-year-old woman in her home. He’s seen sitting in the dark, drinking water, and angrily leaving the residence when it becomes clear she isn’t coming home when he thought she was.

Fortunately for Williams, she was at a square dance and stopped by her daughter’s home afterward. Rader then sent a poem titled “Oh, Anna, Why Didn’t You Appear” to the unsuspecting woman and a news station in Wichita, Kansas.

“T’was a perfect plan of deviant pleasure so bold on that Spring nite,” he wrote.

Dennis Rader’s ghastly 30-year killing spree caught everyone who knew him off guard. The man was Boy Scout troop leader and president of a church council. His wife Paula and two children, including daughter Kerri, were entirely unaware that they lived under the same roof as the BTK Killer.

“My dad was the one who taught me my morals,” his daughter Kerri later said. “He taught me right from wrong.”

Rader has been serving 10 consecutive life sentences for the 10 murders with which he was charged in 2005. The 74-year-old is being held at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas. His earliest possible release date is 2180.
